ISRF News - Third Time a Charm
Some weeks back on my way over to Sandyhill Pigeon Supplies I dropped into our first open winner of the season Spike Emmett of C&K Emmett Finglas RPC. Spike and his son Martin where there to meet me. This was a fantastic achievement for the partnership, their third open success, two Sennen Coves and now a Barley Cove. The pigeon was a yearling blue hen sitting on eggs. Spike tells me she's a Galaxy loft pigeon and goes onto tell me they have had great results with these birds since purchasing them.
Spike is 83 years of age, his love for his birds and his sport is a lovely thing to see. On a tour of the lofts he shows me around the stock with pride and there on the floor of the shed a mother hen is sitting on her new arrivals. The whole set-up was Spike's handy work. Spike tells me how the main racing loft came about with his sons building a couple of houses he got all the discarded wood, spot boards etc and piece by piece he put the loft together. He tells me it's the luckiest loft he's ever had, this may be so but what I saw was very happy contented pigeons in a very relaxed atmosphere with a man just enjoying his pigeons to the full. It was just lovely to see.

Spike would like to give a special mention to his friend the Mighty Mick Gilligan who he just beat for the open on the decimal. Spike goes onto tell me the open successes have come in the later years of Spike's career and at 83 there's hope for us all yet. Thanks to Spike and Martin for their hospitality and best of luck in the future.
Yours in Sport,
Tucker Daniel
